The liners fit even before cutting. Cutting the front allows from better flex, comfort and breathing. I added the tongue from a pair of Sifika shoes (not pictured) into the tongue part of the liner for added bulk to keep the skin full (I did add the skin back on). What I found is that this added to the overall soft-shell feeling and really keeps my foot locked in there without any pinching or anything. Also, it let me fully lace up the liner while still being able to get my foot in it.
